Just a short update for anyone reading along.
I committed my first "scripts" to the central Virtools repository today - and i actually liked it ... well at least i didn't scream MURDER! half the time :-)
Due to Virtools working with the "one big humongous file for everything in some odd binary format" concept, it is impossible to use a revision control system for keeping up with new stuff and working several people on the same project at once. Therefore, each guy works on his own stuff, and then integrates it while he is done, come to think of it that is how you are supposed to use revision control systems. When the "script" is done, he asks for the permission to write in the network-shared-humongous-file (yes asks as in "using his mouth and asking"), the person who currently has the permission can then give the guy the "write" permission.
But how do you keep track on who has the right to write (ohh, rimes!) - you use the "Code Tomato (tm)", we have a tomato with the words "CODE" on it, and the guy with the tomato on his monitor has write permissions. The tomato is now about a week old and starting to show it's age.
To be continued, in the mean time:http://imdb.com/title/tt0080391/
