Blog/Rid-me-of-stupid-comments

As you might have noticed a lot of bot/spam like comments have been posted to some of the blog entries. This means that i have now added some code that requires you to verify your comment by clicking on a link in an email sent to you.

I think it is amazing, i can understand that the livejournal guys gets a lot of SPAM related comments, but this system is not even a month old, and it is already abused. Oh well, hopefully fixed now.

Oh and i just found this story on Slashdot.org, it talks about a new patent being issued by microsoft, on emoticons - translating :-) and other character sequences to images. The point is not so much (in my oppinion) that the patent is stupid and has tons of prior art, but rather a comment by the microsoft guy stating that anyone can place a comment on prior art or the like for any patent that they are trying to obtain. The problem is that big corporations like microsoft has the means to submit heaps of patents, and it becomes an unmanageable task for anyone to make comments on all of them.

Hopefully another nail in the coffin that is software patents.
